Despite the gloomy weather, parents shuffled their children through the crowded corridors and stayed to help their little ones get settled.
At Greenside Primary School, Grade 1 pupils and parents met in the school hall and received an introductory briefing by foundation phase teachers and the principal.
The Grade 1s were then placed in their classes and shown to their new classrooms, with parents being allowed to help their children get settled into their new environment.
Meanwhile, at Rosebank Primary School, Grade 1 pupils were settled into their new classes and learnt their teachers’ names and the names of their classmates. The children mostly expressed excitement on starting their first day of big school, with only one Grade 1 boy bursting into tears because he wanted to sit next to his friend.
