UPDATE: Naked man wandering around Zoo lake
PARKVIEW - It has been reported that a naked man was walking around Zoo Lake earlier this morning.
UPDATE: 2pm – The naked man spotted during peak traffic on Jan Smuts this morning is now at Helen Joseph Hospital.
Several motorists reported seeing a man completely naked and wandering around near Jan Smuts Avenue and Chester Road.
Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe of the Rosebank police station explained that they encountered the man this morning at about 9am, and drove him to Helen Joseph Hospital. He was quick to clarify that this does not constitute an arrest.
“He was just standing there naked, we had to remove him. The only place we could take him to was to the hospital to get him help” said Mdletshe.
By the time the police got there the man was given a t-shirt and trousers by security.
It is unknown if the man was in fact homeless, “he was not that dirty, he looked like a clean person” said Mdletshe.
The man had initially refused to speak, but on arrival at Helen Joseph hospital he relented and started conversing with the nurses.
Initial report: 10am – Motorists driving along Lower Park Drive in Parkview, reportedly noticed a naked man wandering nonchalantly around Zoo Lake at around 8am this morning.
Concerned members of the public called Parkview police and the man has reportedly been arrested.
Some local residents claim that he is a vagrant familiar to the area.
Twitter was abuzz with residents talking about the incident. @Aqilha SmithXO tweeted: “So in other news there was a naked man walking along Jan Smuts this morning. Waving all his private areas to everyone. Happy Tuesday,” while @cherene_nel tweeted, “Naked man handing out pamphlets cnr Jan Smuts and Chester. Unbelievable!”
Parkview Police were dispatched to the area, but the man had moved away and was not arrested.
