Nappy run at the Zoo

SAXONWOLD - The annual nappy fun run event was held on 1 November at the Johannesburg Zoo.

The 5km fun run comprised of a scenic loop starting and ending at the historic bandstand. The event was to raise awareness and funds for the country’s children with disabilities.

Hosted in conjunction with the National Council for People with Physical Disabilities, national director Therina Wentzel points out that South Africa has an estimated 2.1 million children with disabilities.

Since its inception in 2011 as a joint project with the National Association for Persons with Cerebral Palsy, the Nappy Run has collected sufficient funds and nappy donations to distribute more than 300 000 disposable diapers to non-governmental organisations, children’s homes, shelters and families in need.

Prizes were handed out to participants who wore a traditional cloth nappy in the most creative way.
