UPDATE: Woman attacked by armed robbers in Killarney complex (VIDEO)

The association notes that when a crime occurs in their area, the community would normally be fully aware of it.

Many residents and real estate agents, as well as the police sector commander for the area, could not recognise the complex in which the robbery took place, and had no previous recollection of the incident prior to the video being released online.

Some responses on social media state that the complex looks familiar and may be located in the neighbouring suburb of Oaklands.

In e-mail correspondence to the Rosebank Killarney Gazette, chairman Wayne Ford of the New Killarney-Riviera Residents’ Association said, “Crime in Killarney is very low. We have issues with car thefts and thefts out of cars – mainly because few buildings have visitors’ parking inside the gate and visitors are forced, in many cases, to park in the street. We also have the occasional cat burglary or bag-snatching.

“However armed robberies and assaults are mercifully very rare – maybe one per year in a population of about 3 500-odd residents. Police advise people to be aware of being followed through the gate into the complex, and to ensure your guards – if any – are alert to this risk.

“They also advise people never to leave valuables visible in cars while driving around or when parked, and that people protect even upstairs windows and balcony doors to prevent cat burglaries.”
