6 injured in taxi collision on Jan Smuts

CRAIGHALL – Six people were injured when a taxi collided with another vehicle on the corner of Jan Smuts and Waterfall Avenue earlier this evening.

An eyewitness on the scene, Shadrack Fasho said the taxi was travelling on Jan Smuts south-bound when a red VW Polo attempted to make a U-turn at the Jan Smuts/Waterfall Avenues intersection.

“The taxi tried to avoid crashing into the Polo by swerving left but then crashed into another taxi travelling in the same direction,” he explained.

The collision saw the taxi reverting and subsequently crashing into the VW Polo.

The passengers in the taxi were helped out of the smashed-in vehicle by the taxi driver and a few onlookers, and seated on the pavement while they waited for the paramedics to arrive.

One of the passengers, who asked not to be named said the taxi was travelling from Randburg to Alexandra.

“The taxi driver tried his best to avoid hitting the Polo but it was unfortunate that there was another taxi next to us,” she said.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and escorted the injured ladies off the scene.

Fasho said the intersection was a problem and he and other Craighall residents had seen similar incidents occur at the intersection.
