Police bust shoplifting car jammers

PARKVIEW – An undercover stakeout by Parkview police led to the arrest of suspects found in possession of brand new clothing worth about R10 000.

Captain Sandile Mkhize and reservist Sergeant Bobby Budai were patrolling in an unmarked vehicle on Berry Hertzog Avenue in Emmarentia. They spotted a suspicious black VW Golf with three occupants and after tailing it for a while, they pulled it over.

The policemen searched the occupants and recovered several valuable items, including thousands worth of brand new clothing items, which had price tags of a leading retail clothing store. A jamming device, which is used to interfere with the frequency of a car-locking system by jamming the signal and preventing a car from being locked, was also found.

Upon questioning, the suspects, aged between 26 and 34, couldn’t verify the origin of the clothing and further failed to give ownership details of the vehicle they had been travelling in, which led police to suspect the vehicle had been stolen.

Three suspects aged between 26 and 34 were found in possesion of suspected stolen property and a jamming device.
