Be a scout for a day

ROSEBANK - Boys and girls, teens and tweens will have the chance to be scouts for a day at 1st Rosebank Scout Group's centenary open day.

The open day is the first of three events planned to celebrate the group’s 100th year of existence.

“We have always had a proud scouting troop and pack at the group. We aim to thrive with a new group of children and teenagers who want to get involved, get excited, be empowered and be prepared,” said North West district commissioner Michael Tyson.

“We hope to engage with the community and show them what scouting can mean for their children, for themselves, and for the community at large.”

Open day activities will include pioneering demonstrations, backwoods cooking displays, camping demonstrations, tips on how to keep warm on cold days, interest badges, cubs bases, displays about the group’s history, and more.

The open day will take place on 7 September at the Scout Hall, corner of Bolton and Blandford Roads, Parkwood, from 10am until 3pm.

Scouts South Africa is a volunteer-based organisation, founded by Robert Baden-Powell. He strove to inspire a movement that would “leave this place a little better than we found it”.
