Discovery Tennis Club held an open day meet-and-greet to mingle with their community on March 12.

Players were welcomed with newly refurbished playing surfaces and the warm family feeling synonymous with the historic club. Making families and individuals feel welcome was the aim of the day, as well as promoting a loving approach to the great game of tennis.

Guiding the young rackets on the court is a mainstay of tennis on the West Rand, Lina Swart. Tennis is a sport the whole family can enjoy and Lina urged parents to set an example for the youth.
“Children today do not go outside to play, they mostly play games online or on consoles. We need to bring our kids back to nature and healthy living,” said the seasoned coach.

“The brain can be compared to the most powerful sportscar on earth. It may have unlimited power, but if a person does not have a key for it, does not have the skill to drive it, does not know what fuel it needs, or does not know how to maintain it, it cannot perform,” she said.

Together with Lina and Adele, the committee and other members work as a team to promote the healthiest atmosphere needed for individuals to thrive while focusing on social and competitive action on the court.

“This is quality time, time that kids will remember forever,” beamed Lina. Listing the ingredients of a happy life, Adele advised, ‘you need, positive thinking, brain fitness, good sleep habits, brain food, water, oxygen, and most of all we need movement’.

Inviting the West Rand to sample what they have on offer, Saturday afternoons are ideal to meet the team and pick a suitable playing package.

The club will be hosting a junior tournament on April 15 and Adele urges parents to get a head-start, saying, “Discovery has always been the club with the warmest hearts, where people are welcome. Everybody may come by and play as a visitor. Bring back the joy of tennis, family, and healthy living.”
