“Carry me home” by Melanie Wright

From many trials and tribulations comes a book of hope.

In 2018 Melanie Wright won the title of Mrs Universe South Africa, however, her life wasn’t all glitz and glam.

Before she became an icon for others she had to go through many struggles herself. From being homeless to imprisonment, Melanie has conquered it all, and it brought her here. Now she wants to help others deal with their struggles.

Working with a ghostwriter from England, Melanie wrote Carry me home, an autobiography described as ‘a journey and not just a book’. The purpose of this autobiography is however not solely to tell Melanie’s story but to inspire others to realise their struggles can also be overcome and that there is light at the end of even the darkest tunnel.

“While doing a lot of charity work before and during my reign of Mrs Universe South Africa I had seen too many people that had given up on life and themselves. My hope for this book is to inspire others and to show people that no matter what we go through there is always hope and that we are tougher than we think. It all starts with a dream, followed by hard work and determination,” Melanie said.

Writing this book has also brought Melanie some clarity.

“The whole experience of writing this book has made me reflect on everything I had gone through and it had brought up many feelings that I had buried many years ago. It’s been a true healing process and has given me closure on many things that I had blamed myself and others for. I have now walked away from the hurt and look forward to the many dreams I still want to achieve,” Melanie concluded.
