The sought-after competition will be taking place from July 11 to 14 in Bloemfontein.

After competing in various FDDCMGP (Federation of Dance Drill Cheerleading Majorettes Gauteng Province) league competitions, the Roodebeeck Majorettes (Juniors) and Roodenation (Seniors) recently qualified for the FDDCMSA National Championships.

According to head coach Sonja Nortman both teams consist of 65 girls who will be competing in 64 categories, with the two main categories being Small Drill and Large Drill.

“We will be preparing for the competition seven hours a day, until it is time to compete. We are super-excited and are confident that we will come back with many gold medals and as crowned champions. The girls have been working very hard,” Sonja said.

Although most of the teams comprise local girls, some of the majorettes travel from as far as Midrand to practise the routines with the rest of the team at Laerskool Roodebeeck.

The Roodebeeck Majorettes will be performing under the leadership of Dané Nortman while Roodenation will be entering the stage under the leadership of Taytum Nelson and Mia Kuun.
