Roodebeeck says goodbye to Mrs Visser

For the past 38 years the presence of Roodebeeck Primary’s principal, Margaret Visser impacted on every part of the school. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end.

On Friday, April 29 learners, teachers and parents bid farewell to a true and passionate leader who has started and ended her career as principal at the school. During the special farewell ceremony, Mrs Visser made a grand entrance when she arrived at the school in an ADT Fidelity helicopter.

This gave her the opportunity to have a full view of her second home of almost 40 years, for one last time. On this day learners were also surprised with a special visit from various police units, security services and emergency services.

Learners were ecstatic when a representative from each unit demonstrated what the respective professions are all about. When most of the excitement fizzled out, Principal Visser was honoured in an appropriate manner for her time at the school.

“This was only part two of the farewell. The first part included a visit to Waterfall Cove on Saturday April 23 where families, school staff, school governing body members and former colleagues expressed their gratitude towards Mrs Visser’s years of hard work and dedication,” farewell organisers, Larushelle Roets and Mariette Pretorius said.

“The theme of the farewell was ‘moments in time’. We celebrated her first moments at Roodebeeck Primary, we relived some of her favourite moments, and we made sure that her last moments were unforgettable. Each teacher did their part to ensure that she felt appreciated.”

One of her last moments included hanging her picture in the school hall, ensuring that her legacy would live on for a long time to come.

The halls of the school will feel empty and the classrooms lifeless without the inspirational presence of a passionate principal.
