Cable thieves caught red-handed in Witpoortjie

A tip-off from the community led to the arrest of two men in possession of suspected stolen cables.

Four quick-reacting Visible Policing members caught cable thieves red-handed on Wednesday, 3 March in Witpoortjie after receiving a tip-off.

Captain Raymond Sebonyane, the Krugersdorp Police spokesperson said two men, aged 22 and 27 were arrested at about 11.30am.

The Visible Policing members, Sergeants Innocent Ngobeni, Bonginkosi Mkhonza and Sizwe Khubeka, with Constable Slyview Mushwana received a tip-off from the community about people stealing cables in the area.

The police approached the two men, who could not explain why they were in possession of the cables,” Sebonyane said.

They will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

Sebonyane said the Krugersdorp Police station commander, Brigadier Ngwako Mashao welcomed the arrests and applauded the swift response of the members.

He also thanked the community for working with the police in the fight against crime, and urged them to continue sharing information about any suspicious activities by contacting the Crime Stop line 08600 10111 or the Krugersdorp police on 011 951 1151 or 011 951 1152.
