More than 110 arrests by police in West Rand District

At least 112 people were arrested during another mass West Rand District operation – most for murder, business robbery, dagga, robbery and common assault.

Another Okae Molao Operation held by police in the West Rand District, this time in Carletonville and Khutsong, led to the arrest of 112 people last Thursday, 11 February.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, spokesperson for the West Rand District Police and Bekkersdal Police Station, suspects were arrested for offences such as murder (two); unlicensed firearm (one); possession of copper cables (one); business robberies (nine); rape (four); robberies (three); assault with GBH (two); common assault (two); fraud (one); malicious damage to property (one), and theft out of vehicles (two).

“Police also arrested suspects in crimes ranging from possession of dagga, possession of drugs, possession of dangerous weapon, dealing in liquor without a licence, contravention of protection order, and domestic assault. All arrested suspects are expected to appear in their respective magistrates’ courts soon,” Lefakane said.

In his address, Brigadier Manamela, the Acting District Commissioner urged people to continue adhering to Covid-19 regulations.

“Let us participate in crime-prevention initiatives actively to put a stop to all criminal activities,” Manamela added.
