Word of the day

The word of the day for 27 November is: Goals.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines a goal as the object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result.

Karen Casey described her thoughts on goals, saying that anything we set out to achieve can be accomplished if we do it one step at a time and one day at a time.

If we have a goal, we need to put plans in place and work to achieve it. Brian Tracey said that a goal without a plan is just a dream. Fitzhugh Dodson said, “Without goals, and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination”.

We may think we are the best at something, but if we are not working towards a goal, or working to be better, then what is the point?

Zig Ziglar said, “I don’t care how much power, brilliance or energy you have, if you don’t harness it and focus it on a specific target and hold it there, you’re never going to accomplish as much as your ability warrants”.

We also can’t let our fears or insecurities get in the way of your goals. We will never know how much we can accomplish if we don’t try. Kathy Seligman said, “You can’t hit a home run unless you step up to the plate. You can’t catch a fish unless you put your line in the water. You can’t reach your goals if you don’t try.”

Procrastination is the thief of time; if we keep putting off something, it will never get done, and if it eventually does get done, it will not be as good as it could have been if we started earlier.

Napoleon Hill said, “Do not wait; the time will never be ‘just right’. Start where you stand and work with whatever tools you may have at your command; better tools will be found as you go along.”
