Today in history: Hit maker Davido is born

When he returned to Nigeria in 2011, his music career was side-lined after he agreed to honour his father by enrolling at Babcock University.

Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer, Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke was born on 21 November 1992 in Atlanta and raised in Lagos.

Davido made his music debut as a member of the music group KB International. He studied business administration at Oakwood University before dropping out to make beats and record vocal references.

The Nigerian hit-maker rose to fame in 2011 with the release of Dami Duro, the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo in 2012.

When he returned to Nigeria in 2011, his music career was side-lined after he agreed to honour his father by enrolling at Babcock University.

In July 2015, he earned a degree in music from Babcock after his father paid the university to start a music department for an inaugural class of one.

On November 30, 2017, Davido won the Best African Act at the MOBO Awards and also became the first African act to perform live at the awards.

Davido became the first African-based artist to have received his award on the BET Awards main stage.
