The Caxton Halloween Queen strikes again

"They had just released the remake of IT, and I thought it would be awesome to do my interpretation of Penny Wise"

Caxton Joburg West’s very own Halloween Queen, Geraldine Scott, also known as the Ice Queen, Zipper Face, Maleficent and Pennywise, did not disappoint with her unique and scary Halloween ensemble this year.

Geraldine, known on 31 October as The Nun, had shivers running down every employee’s spine as she entered the office in her black and white Conjuring get-up. Since the age of 12, she has loved dressing up for Halloween, and has been doing just that every Halloween for the past 14 years. “I love the reaction I get from the costumes I wear,” she stated.

Creativity is definitely not something she lacks. From the perfectly themed desk, to the perfect make-up and costume for each Halloween, Geraldine can do it all. “I have always wanted to be a make-up artist for horror movies, but unfortunately the market for that is in America and not really in South Africa. So Halloween gives me the opportunity to do my own make-up and scare people – and I love dressing up,” she said.

Last year saw the newly released remake of the Stephen King book, It, giving the Halloween Queen the opportunity to scare all her colleagues by making the character, Pennywise, the dancing clown, come to life. “They had just released the remake and I thought it would be awesome to do my interpretation of Pennywise, plus a lot of people have clown phobias which made it even more fun to scare some people,” she said with a smile playing around her lips.

And this year she decided on the top character from a few of her favorite horror movies – Amityville, Poltergeist, The Conjuring, Exorcist and The Haunted. “I love The Conjuring and the Nun movies, and when I first laid eyes on the Nun, I was really afraid, so I decided to try and see if I could come up with my own scary Nun,” Geraldine explained.

When asked which horror movie character role she would audition for, she answered with no hesitation, “I would love to be a character in The Conjuring.”

But, if she could turn into any of her Halloween characters, which one would she choose? “I would love to be a creepy Medusa character,” she said.

And, who knows, that might just be who she chooses to be next year.
