The word of the day for 24 October is: Resentment.

‘Resentment’ is defined as bitter indignation at having been treated unfairly. It has been described as a mixture of disappointment, anger, fear, disgust, and a perception of injustice.

It is an extremely common emotion and is often coupled with a desire for revenge. Being unable to forgive brings on resentment, and holding on to this negative emotion will only hurt you. Shannon Alder said that holding on to resentment, anger, and jealousy won’t change the hearts of others – it will only change yours.

If you hold onto bitter feelings that you have towards something or someone else, it will only make you an angrier and more bitter person; it will not change who they are.

Carrie Fisher described this perfectly by saying, “Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”

Overall, your resentment will only affect you, not on the other person.
