Roodepoort rock scene rejuvenation

Rock music coming directly to the Roodepoort community.

Lovers of skull-splitting riffs and thunderous drums will soon have a brand new venue to call home.

Rumours Rock City, the live music venue chain, will be bringing their brand of good times direct to rock fans in the heart of Roodepoort.

The venue will open its doors on 3 October with the first big gig scheduled for this Friday, 4 October. Afrikaans rock act, Spoegwolf, will be the first headliners to grace the stage of the new Rumours Rock City Westgate. Owner, Fred Otto, spoke of his vision for the chain and the rock scene as a whole. He said, ”We thought that instead of having one large venue, we could branch out with smaller venues to give fans easier access to their favourite local bands. We have venues in Pretoria, Randburg and Weltevreden Park, and now this Roodepoort location.

We hope that by having more local venues we can inspire young musicians from all areas to kick-start the South African rock scene.”

Otto plans to showcase the very best local rock acts on a regular basis. Aspiring bands and solo artists can look forward to open mic nights while the amateur rock gods can strut their stuff on karaoke evenings. The new Rumours Rock City Westgate is located across from Westgate Mall at 139 Ontdekkers Road, Horison Park. Nothing elevates the heart rate or gets the neurons firing quite like good music. A community with a space to share and enjoy all those impulses is a community alive.
