Local hip hop star switches on to ‘Beastmode’

Steero has always been exposed to the music scene as his father also raps, his mother is a former employee at Roodepoort Theatre and his uncle is a hip hop DJ.

Sixteen-year-old Langa Steero Masina has gone from sharing the stage with the likes of Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta, Emtee and the late HHP to acting on a SABC promo.

Steero has always been exposed to the music scene as his father also raps, his mother is a former employee at Roodepoort Theatre and his uncle is a hip hop DJ.

The young rapper does home schooling, but used to be a learner at Westridge High school in Horizon. He says he stopped attending the school due to issues they had with his hair.

Steero has a new single entitled Beastmode, a hip hop banger that features veteran rapper and Idols presenter, Proverb, and bridges the gap between the young and the old. The song is available online for downloading on Itunes, Deezer, Apple Music and Spotify.

The hip hop star said, “It was very inspiring to work with Proverb and see how things are properly done, professionally I would say I learnt a lot from him.”

This track is a true test of the rapper’s skill as he goes head on with one of the best and manages to stay true to his own style and emerge a better artist.

Through his modern, youthful image, Steero makes it a point to represent young people correctly, confirming Khuli Chana’s words that the future of hip hop is safe in his hands.

Steero has also been endorsed by Converse, and modeled for Nike and Jordan at the internationally acclaimed Kids Rock fashion show.

The Brand SA/ Play Your Part ambassador is well on his way to becoming a household name in the hip hop space.

Steero believes in being self-sufficient and not only owns the masters to all his music, but has released this single through his own label, Youth Movement.

When asked to comment about the song, he simply said, “The single Beastmode is a preview of my album because it’s all about your bars being up to par.”

His debut album will be released on his birthday, 19 October, and this is the first full project with more than one song.

Steero said, “I have been working on this album ever since I started home-schooling in 2016.
