There is great concern for the toddler that went missing last week. The family still does not know where he could be or who took him.

As a parent myself (fortunately my girls are grown up), I cannot fathom the anxiety and fear the parents must be going through.

The incident prompted a discussion during our daily diary meeting about missing children and the increase in human trafficking. Please don’t think I’m suggesting that the toddler has become a victim of this scourge – we were just talking in general.

However, I don’t understand why people decide to leave home, work or school and disappear without any kind of communication to their family and friends. Do they not realise what they are putting the family through – not knowing where their child, brother, father, etc is?

The discussion rapidly moved on to human trafficking and how quickly the children are taken out of the country (I am praying this is not the case), but my question is: “What happened to humanity?” If you accept money in exchange for abducting another person’s child, knowing full well what that child is going to go through, and the anguish and desperation the parents are going through while doing everything in their power to get their child back, then you are evil, through and through.

The Record is praying alongside the family of the toddler for his safe return. We pray that the people who have him will somehow grow a conscience and bring him back, unharmed.

Another contentious issue that has resurfaced after being out of the news for a while is the dreadful animal abuse at the West Rand Pet and Bird Farm. I read a few comments from Facebook readers who say that the SPCA is not doing its job and the place should have been closed down a long time ago. I agree with you about closing the place down, but the SPCA can only operate within the law. It is a long story, but maybe call the manager and talk to her about it. Maybe then you will understand her frustration as well.

The Record will update you on the pet farm and its problems in next week’s issue.

Until next week, take care of the children, not just yours, but your neighbour’s too.

Ciao
