Have you ever thought about how your eating habits might affect your business pitch?

JOBURG – These tips will help you make an impression for a presentation.

Have you ever thought about how your eating habits might affect your business pitch or presentation? When pitching a business idea what you eat and drink is just as important as your presentation.

This is according to Engen Pitch & Polish project manager, Bronwyn Echardt who offers some useful tips on eating etiquette before pitching:

Eating Etiquette for Pitching

  •  Saucy dishes: avoid meals where there is even a small possibility of the sauce ending up on your clothing
  •  Leafy leftovers: avoid eating spinach or lettuce that can get stuck in your teeth and be a distraction, keep your smile clean
  •  Garlic/onion: the smell may not be as faint as you think, if it spreads in the room it may turn investors off
  •  Beer/coke: Both beverages can make you burp in the middle of your pitch, which may be embarrassing
  •  Alcohol: Smelling of it from the night before or before your presentation, gives a poor impression about how seriously you taking the opportunity.

“How you present yourself is as important as how you present your polished pitch. Look crisp, clean, wide-eyed, eager and alert. Make sure you check for food stains on your clothes, body odour and that the impression you’re going to leave on the investors will be excellent , covering all positive aspects of yourself physiologically and intellectually,” said Echardt.
