This past weekend we were invited to attend an 80’s Rewind show at the Barnyard Theatre at Cresta, and what an amazing show it was.

I grew up in a wonderful era. We were allowed to play in the streets after dark, although not often – my mother was way too strict, but it was still safe. We could ride our bicycles anywhere we wanted to; it was the only way to get around anyway.

We drank water from a hosepipe without any fear of contracting some contagious disease. We climbed in trees and by some miracle we didn’t break any bones.

Best of all, we had the most amazing music to listen to. You could actually sing along to the lyrics. Do you remember taping music from the radio? It made me so furious when the radio DJ spoke while the song was still playing. Our fashion was big, bright and bold. Big hair and bright colours. Leg warmers were not just for gym, they were part of your everyday wardrobe.

The only way to block someone from calling you was to take the headset of the phone off its cradle – and do you still remember the clock dial phones?

Yep, those sure were fun times. I could go on forever, but what was your fondest memory while growing up in the 80s? Let me know.

Until next week, take care of one another.
