Access to Justice is expected to file an application at the High Court today (3 October), in order to interdict private security at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) from acting outside the law.

Jacaranda FM reported that the human rights organisation will seek the interdict on behalf of UJ students, who felt the brunt of law enforcement last week.
On 29 September, a group of UJ lecturers and students held an urgent press conference at a community hall in Fordsburg to voice difficulties they said they had faced at the hands of private bouncers and security personnel.
Last week saw private security use pepper spray, teargas and allegedly assault students and journalists to disrupt protest action at the university.
