Freestyle is their style

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Meet five youngsters who are slowly dominating the dance scene.

iDance Studio’s young, up-and-coming freestyle dancers are moving their way up the dance ladder to the top!

From a young age, Cayce Steinkamp (12), Luka Steinhoubel (12), Jodie Routledge (14), Kendra Mckenzie (8) and Cyan Greer (3) have all loved dance.

With only four months into the competitive arena, Steinkamp and Steinhoubel took first and second place respectively in the Supreme Dancer of the Year competition held recently at Carnival City.

The competition was also Greer’s first time competing and she was able to gain fourth place in her age category. Routledge continues to hold the Weltevreden Park studio’s name high, and newest member, Mckenzie, is eager to compete in future competitions.

The solo dance competition showcases competing dancers on the floor at the same time. Several rounds are completed until the top six dancers are selected. From there, only the best dancers are placed in the top position and receive a medal.

“I am very impressed and blown away by these girls; They have only been practising for competitions for the last four months and they are already placing [well] and have won titles. I couldn’t be more proud; they are very talented,” said iDance studio instructor, Ursula Greer. These girls plan to dominate in the Gauteng Championship, one of the top competitions of the year. For this, the dancers will overcome a new challenge and perform in the slow routine category, as well as a fast routine.

With only about a month between competitions, the dancers are always on their toes. Even though – at this stage – competing is still a very nerve-wracking experience, the fun they have while dancing makes up for it.
