RUIMSIG – An evening of cowboys, country and barn dancing held in aid of Sarda Gauteng.

The Gateway Village’s hall was filled with cowboy hats, boots, plaid and hay bales all in aid of a very special cause.

SA Riding for the Disabled Association of Gauteng (Sarda) hosted a barn dance and dinner on 27 August in aid of the Gauteng branch. The person in charge of raising funds, Julia Morris said that the evening was a huge success, but that she would’ve wanted more people to attend.

“This evening was planned for people to enjoy themselves and have fun,” said Morris. Young and older couples had the chance to learn new skills with the help of Teper and Siobhan Blundell from Blundell Barn Dancing with their easy steps to barn dancing. The hall was filled with the sounds of country music and cowboy heels clicking on tile floor, while laughs filled the room of people trying out new moves for the first time.

Siobhan said that barn dancing is very good as it is an easy dance that could be done informally and that is just very fun. “It is a social dance as well,” said Siobhan. She added that the group of Saturday was a great group who quickly got the hang of the different dances.

With all the dancing, sometimes forcing one to pair up with a different partner assured that new friendships were formed while raising necessary funds in aid of Sarda Gauteng.
