Editor's note

Do you agree with these adverts?

I feel the ads are misleading, and don't get the right message across at all

There is a huge billboard on the N14 on the way to Muldersdrift. It reads ‘I give my clients pleasure, not HIV’. There’s another one at Key West Shopping Centre that reads ‘I swing both ways, but I always use a condom’. Both of them have me hot under the collar.

I feel the ads are misleading, and don’t get the right message across at all. Worse – they’re clear indications of the moral decay of our society. I am sure there are better ways to advertise condoms.

I shudder to think what parents have to go through to explain the messages of these ads to their children. Fortunately, I don’t have that problem as my children are old enough to understand the ads, but my 19-year-old daughter thinks they’re disgusting. She feels that although people will take notice, they’re a crude way to convey the message.

I would like to know whether you have had to explain these messages to your children? What explanation did you give?

Do you agree with the way the subject has been advertised, or would you prefer something smaller and more discreet? Send your comments to roelienv@caxton.co.za.

Until next week, take care of one another.

Ciao
