What change would you like to see?

Joburg has a new Mayor.

Congratulations to Herman Mashaba for being elected to take the hot seat – a position I would definitely not want to occupy.

But, the people have spoken. The country is in desperate need of change and with the elections done and dusted, change is what we will see. It is inevitable.

What changes would you like the new Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality to make? Keeping in mind that this is on a local level, my wish list would include, but would not be limited to, the following:

* Adopt stricter laws or apply the existing ones better to prevent taxi drivers from ruling the road

* Make sure that traffic lights are in working order, especially in peak hours

* Stop electricity theft

* Animal and child abusers should get longer prison sentences

* Do something about the beggars and hawkers at traffic lights as they are a nuisance and a safety risk

* Corrupt police and traffic officers should be named and shamed in public

Although my list is short, there are many more things the City of Joburg can improve on.

What change would you like to see or what law would you like to be brought back or adopted?

Let us know by sending your own wish list to roelienv@caxton.co.za.

We would like to publish some of the items on your list in next week’s issue.

Until then, take care of one another.

Ciao
