Glitzy dresses, impressive hats, and tailor fitted suits took center stage at Kloofzicht Lodge as the Muldersdrift Business Woman’s Association (MBWA) hosted a Vodacom Durban July skit in aid of four charities.
The South African Riding for the Disabled Association (Sarda), Footprints, Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) and Smart Boys will benefit from the MBWA’s first horse derby.

The association’s chairperson Laurice Matulovich said the event marked their first major charity event of the year.
“We are a group of women who support charities on ground level. Last year we invited world-famous soccer player Augusto Palacios to train with Smart Boys,” she said.

Smart Boys are a group of children from a nearby informal settlement the MBWA adopted.
Socialites and celebrities like 2015 SA Bachelor of the Year Wayne Stafford, Miss Earth SA finalists and award-winning entrepreneur Jaco Gerrits and Edith Venter all joined in support of the MBWA and, of course, not one dress or suit failed to impress .
“There is an amazing turnout today, but I am more impressed with how everyone dressed,” Matulovich said.
During entertainment by Ruan Wepener and a live darby, the Durban July races streamed live on the big screen. The Vodacom Durban July over the past few years has held Sarda as it’s title charity for the event.
After showing off their hats and dresses, guests placed bets, bought raffle tickets and were served a three-course meal as the races began.
