Even though it is winter and it’s cold outside, cricket enthusiasts can still enjoy a game of cricket at the Hillfox Action Sports Arena.
Two teams with eight players on each side came together at the arena on 11 July for the weekly league game on the Wanderers Court. The cricket games are played every week from Monday to Thursday evenings. “We currently have 70 teams of eight players in each team,” said Graeme Hare from the arena.
The game differs from outdoor cricket as it is fast-paced with all players participating as bowlers and batsmen. The game only lasts for an hour and 10 minutes. “It tests the fielders reflexes because it’s played in a smaller area and players can be caught off the net,” said Hare. This league will last until September. People can enter their own teams for a fun and social game or teams can enter on a more competitive level.
People of any age can play and teams can enter for the next league if they contact the arena.
