Since the weekend, the Record has been inundated with messages from readers about the Bright family that was hijacked and subsequently involved in a collision caused by the hijackers.

I read the comments with interest and it is clear that the majority of people are outraged at this brutal act.

Everybody knows crime has escalated out of control. Criminals have no regard for human life. They take what they want, when they want; in most cases murder, rape and brutal attacks are the order of the day.

The Record’s deepest sympathy goes to the Bright family for the trauma they are suffering. The family’s lives have been impacted immensely and it is very sad that the children had to endure such brutality so early in their lives. It is just wrong.

Is the justice system failing us by not keeping criminals behind bars? Should the death penalty be brought back, and would it make a difference? Could the death penalty ensure that fewer criminals walk free?

Where does the problem lie? So many questions …

We wish the victims a speedy recovery and trust they would resume their normal lives soon.

The Record will keep you updated as the story unfolds.

Until next week, please take care of one another.

Ciao
