Are you a litter lout?

I drove through Johannesburg last week and was disgusted to see how dirty the town is.

Black bags and rubbish were all over the place. Heaps of rubbish could be seen at almost every street corner.

Then again, just looking out my office window, the street is littered with paper, plastic bottles and cold drink cans.

Many years ago, if I remember correctly, it was illegal to throw anything out the car window. As children we never even thought of throwing our rubbish out the window; my father taught us to keep everything until we are home or arrived at a place where we could dispose of it. Then again, we were never allowed to eat in the car either. We either stopped at a picnic spot next to the road to have lunch, or we had to wait until we arrived at our destination. My dad hated a dirty car, inside and out.

I remember petrol stations handing out litter bags. Those bags were kept for the odd times we were allowed a snack in the car.

I often see people throwing their rubbish out the car window, or pedestrians littering the sidewalks. It really infuriates me.

If everybody uses a dustbin it would be one less piece of rubbish to worry about.
Are you one of the culprits?

Let us know; you could remain anonymous if you wish. Tell us why you feel the need to throw your rubbish out the car window.

Until next week, take care of one another.
Ciao
