Kahn Morbee discusses his future plans

FERNDALE – Well-known musician discusses his solo career, The Voice and his band's plans for this year.

Kahn Morbee, lead vocalist of the well-known band, The Parlotones, can now add another position to his résumé. Morbee can be seen as a coach on The Voice South Africa. He chats about his solo plans, The Parlotones, as well as his experience on this show at his home in Ferndale.

Morbee said that he is currently recording his solo album that he hopes to release in May this year. “This album is more subdued and I tried to introduce different instruments – not that many guitar sounds and more piano-driven.” He adds that this album differs from the sounds of The Parlotones as this is only him. “In the band everyone contributes, but in this album it is only me.”

Apart from his solo album being released, Morbee mentioned that the band will be hosting orchestrated concerts in theatre all over the country in April. All the beloved Parlotones songs will be played by an orchestra. “We have tested this concept in October and our fans loved it, the show was sold out. We have to give people something different.”

The Voice South Africa final will be in May this year. Morbee is a coach alongside rocker, Karen Zoïd, Afrikaans-singer, Bobby van Jaarsveld and soulful, Lira. “The show was pre-recorded in December. The talent was amazing, I can’t believe that these people are not stars already.” He said that this show is meant to be a very uplifting experience and not break contestants down.

Morbee said that if he could give advice to young up-and-coming artists, he would tell them to remember that they are doing it because of a love for music, not for fame and fortune. “This is a very complicated industry, make sure you have a great deal of knowledge and have a team behind you.” Even with his longstanding success in music, Morbee said that he still learns something new everyday.

“I have learned that you should have a great team behind you. It should be people that you can trust and that is helping you in your best interest,” concluded Morbee.
