Singin’ in the Rain at Montecasino

Don’t miss the amazing performance of Singin’ in the Rain based on the MGM film from 22 January until 13 March at the Teatro at Montecasino in Fourways. The show that is making a splash in the South African theatre industry is loaded with incredible choreography, buoyant songs and witty wisecracks of the original film. The costumes are also fantastic and the first three rows in the audience might get a bit of a surprise as real rain falls onto the stage. Grant Almirall, Bethany Dickson and Steven van Wyk star in this spectacular performance. Go on and be part of the action and cool down from the summer heat.

Parker’s Comedy Madness at Silverstar Casino

Your stomach muscles might just start aching from laughter when you check out this hilarious act at Silverstar Casino in Muldersdrift. The very best of South African and international stand-up comedy will be available in an ever-changing show every week from 22 January. You can enjoy this entertaining show for only R80 per person.

Salim Washington Sextet feat. Nduduzo Makhathini in Braamies

On 22 and 23 January you can check out a conjunction of recording projects at The Orbit in Braamfontein. Salim Washington has been documenting his musical development during the last three years while living in South Africa and working with musical comrades like Nduduzo Makhathini and promising saxophonist Leon Scharnick. Salim will be performing music inspired by the Marikana massacre and the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa. The show will start at 8.30pm and cost R120 per person.

Deep South at the Orbit

The instrumental band that incorporates their musical sounds from across the globe has promised to make sure you get your money’s worth on 22 January at the Orbit in Braamfontein. The band consists of guitarist Dave Ledbetter, percussionist Ronan Skillen, Shaun Johannes on the bass and Marcus Wyatt on the trumpet and flugelhorn. The tunes influenced by the east, west, north and particularly, the south have been created skillfully and crafted in an acoustic style, with colourful grooves and poignant melodies. Deep South’s lyrical compositions are executed with a delicate precision that falls easily on the ears. The show starts at 8.30pm and costs R120 per person.

Open Mic night at TJ’s

Go and support local up-and-coming artists at TJ’s Acoustic Club at Marks Park in Emmerentia the last Thursday of every month for only R25. With great food, music, a cheap bar and fun, people are promised an enjoyable night. A back-up generator is available if Eskom decides to step in again. There will also be free and safe parking available.

Comedy in Melville

This is another hilarious act for all comedy junkies that takes place every Monday at Poppy’s Restaurant in 7th Street in Melville. The entrance is free of charge and it has been promised that these nights will definitely let you end a stressful Monday with a smile and chuckle.
