Tshedi relaunches her music career

ROODEPOORT – After taking a break from Malaika, Tshedi is now going solo.

Tshedi ‘The Leopard Queen’ Mholo who was the award-winning lead singer for the afro-pop group Malaika, is back in action but going solo.

“I didn’t quit music, it was just a break and I am now going solo as Tshedi,” said Mholo.

After taking a break from the group, Tshedi said, “I am taking charge of my own life and career now.”

On 21 November, the musician, who is also a business woman, will be relaunching her music career and a DVD at the Roodepoort Theatre.

“I pulled back from Malaika because I needed enough time to re-think, re-work on my career, but now I am back,” she said.

Tshedi said her new live DVD documents her life journey and incorporates songs from her 2013 debut album, Victory, and some songs come from Malaika.

“Stories of a rural girl – Tshedi –before, during and after Malaika will be shared,” said Mholo, a former school teacher.

She added that people shouldn’t be surprised as this has been always her dream – to travel her own journey one day.

Mholo further added that she is happy that she now knows the ups and downs of the music industry.

The DVD is her offering to her fans and a reflection of her personally – as a married woman, a mother and a business woman.

Tshedi is also working with Unicef SA as a celebrity advocate under Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

“I need my fans to know that I started somewhere and it was not easy. Thanks for being there,” said the Unicef SA supporter.

In the past Malaika has won prestigious awards in and outside of South Africa including the Kora Awards, Channel O Awards, South African Music Awards and the Metro FM Music Award.

The group consisted of musicians Bongani Nchanga, the late Jadu Ndaba and Tshedi.

After the death of Ndaba, the group got affected and never recovered although Nchanga and Tshedi tried to keep it alive.
