With Christmas around the corner and people gearing up for the festive season, consider our four-legged friends who do not have the luxury of spending time with a family.

Throughout November, the Record is collecting dog and cat food, second-hand clothes and tinned food to be handed out the first week in December to underprivileged communities.

So often dogs and cats go missing when their human families are on holiday and animal charities usually are inundated with unwanted, lost and neglected pets.

The Record wants to support these charities and we request our loyal readers to assist us in our project.

We are not asking for much. Every time you go to the shops, just buy one tin or bag of dog and/or cat food, or tinned food for some underprivileged people. Deliver it to the Record’s office at the corner of Generaal Pienaar Avenue and Ham Street.

It will be delivered to a deserving charity on your behalf.

If you decide to spring-clean your house, please bring your second-hand clothes to us as well. If everybody can donate just one tin or bag of food, so many animals and people can have a better festive season.

Roodepoort Metal Exchange on Albertina Sisulu Road, without hesitation, jumped on board and said they will assist us to collect food and clothes. They also serve as a drop-off point.
