SA war film will hit big screens in April

JOBURG – New South African war film will be released in cinema's internationally in April 2016.

The new South African war film Modder en Bloed (Blood and Glory) will be released in cinemas across the world in April next year.

MS Publicity manager Monica Steyn, on behalf of Starburst Promotions explained that the film tells the story of a Boer warrior and family man.

She explained the character lost his wife and only son during the Boer War of 1899–1902 and was then incarcerated with other Boer prisoners on the island of St. Helena.

“The prisoners become subjected to violence and degrading treatment. They are constantly humiliated but despite the torture and suffering, their resistance and quest for vengeance became stronger. Once the gauntlet is thrown down, the main character and his fellow prisoners rise to the challenge. This eventually leads to revenge in the most important rugby match of their lives,”said Steyn.

Steyn said the Dark Matter Studios (Leading Lady) and Collective Dream Films (Platteland) film is based on endurance, suffering, hardship, the acceptance of a challenge and the pride and glory of a nation.

The cast will include some of the well-known local stars such as Bok van Blerk, Albert Maritz, Michael Richard, Edwin van der Walt, Jacques Bessenger, Altus Theart, Albert Pretorius and Deon Lotz.

There is also a British cast that includes Charlotte Salt (Beowulf / The Tudors), Patrick Connolly (Inferno / Crushed), Nick Cornwall (Blood Loyal /Retribution) and Josh Myers (The Sweeney/Anti-Social).

Director Sean Else said it was an experience that brought an incredible team of people together from across the world.

“I can only say that I take immense pride in the whole team and the movie that we created together and fashioned into reality. I cannot wait to share this story with the whole world,” said Else.

Filming took place in Worcester and parts of Cape Town.
