‘Safe Bet’ nominated for international awards

JOBURG – South African movie and actors receive global recognition.

The Safe Bet film, written by Carl Roddam, received three nominations from the Global Independent Film Awards (Gifa), an online awards competition dedicated at recognising filmmakers and actors for high quality work.

Safe Bet is a film about the local phenomenon of sports betting and serves as an attempt to educate people on the dangers that could arise from gambling. It tells a story of two stupid guys who decide to take their boss’s money and bet it on a fixed boxing match.

It has been nominated in three categories including Best Choreography, Best Action Sequence, and Best Supporting Actor. It features a local collaborative of well-known soapie stars including Wandile Molebatsi, Luthuli Dlamini, Nandi Nyembe, Macks Papo and a few fresh talents.

It also surprises with guest appearances of Metro FM’s top DJ, T’Bo Touch. The film is a light-hearted action comedy flick that is set to truly entertain local audiences.

“I am absolutely ecstatic about these nominations! Just the idea that someone out there has evaluated our work and recognises the efforts we put into this production,”said the film’s producer and director, Bonginhlanhla Ncube.

Well known actor Luthuli Dlamini’s excellent portrayal of the character of Doc in the film earned him the best supporting actor nomination.

Safe Bet will be released in cinemas nationwide early next year. Enthusiastic fans of local productions can follow the film’s social media platforms to stay updated; Facebook: Safe Bet Film, Twitter: @SafeBetFilm, Instagram: safebetfilm
