Should we bring back the death penalty?

The donation for the challenge to collect as many goods for Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) is slowly trickling in.

The Record has already giving some blankets to a needy family in Durban Deep and anonymous donors have bought blankets, dog and cat food and blankets for needy families. We really want to help the animals at Claw and the residents in the area.

After visiting Claw last week, founder Cora Bailey, who knows the Durban Deep community very well, took the Record to a family who was consumed by grief after her boyfriend set their 18-year-old daughter alight in March this year.

They have tried to obtain information from the Roodepoort Police but because the father is a foreigner, they police apparently chased him away without giving him any information. It is a sad day when people treat each other like that.

Driving through the community also made me realise that so many residents, specifically in that area, really take good care of their animals while other just don’t give a hoot. Cora told us an owner dropped their dog that just had puppies off at Claw. The mommy dog was terribly emaciated and frightened. According to Cora, she was abused on top of not getting any food.

I have said it so many times but words fail me when I see or hear about abuse. How can people do this – to one another and to animals?

What kind of sick, twisted mind must this person possess to be able to do this and not have a conscience?

So many people are advocating for the death penalty. Do you think it would eradicate crime and criminals if the death penalty were instituted again?
