The media and specifically social media has been flooded with reports from xenophobic attacks in the past weeks.

Although it is horrendous the way people turn on each other, social media has been able to bring the story to readers in an instant.

My aunt owns her own business and she also tells a tale of the various means her workers have to go to just to blend into the masses to avoid being a target. She said one of her workers son was set alight and when he tried to flee from the flames, he was grabbed and thrown back into the fire.

The photographs that accompany the stories are horrific and definitely not for sensitive viewers. I am not going to also jump onto the bandwagon with regard to the attacks because I am sure you don’t want to continue to read (or see) what has been going on there.

Social media also allows people to give an opinion whereas previously they had to either write to the paper or make a phone call.

News can be delivered in an instant and although I don’t condone the way people treat each other, it makes for interesting reading, especially if people can take part in the conversation.

What I am interested in is how do you as a reader feel about the attacks? You can place your comments on facebook or on the website.
In the meantime, let’s live in peace and take care of one another.

Ciao
