Upcoming film 'Ballade vir 'n Enkeling' held a locally star-studded première at Cedar Square.

Hoardes of excited guests and local celebrities recently gathered at the much anticipated film première of Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling which was held at Cedar Square.

Audiences had the opportunity to experience the nostalgia of Ballade vir ’n Enkeling. South African actors such as Donnalee Roberts, Rolanda Marais, Armand Aucamp and Jacques Bessenger have attempted to transform the iconic TV series, Ballade vir ’n Enkeling, produced by the The Film Factory. The story behind this hugely popular TV series, which surpassed viewer records in 1987, has being retold, this time on the big screen, with a new and fresh approach to the legendary tale.

The première was a buzz of activity as guests from various spheres of the media industry mingled. The event sported a red carpet area where the film’s cast and crew made their appearance before going into the screening of the film. During the course of the première, actor Ivan Botha welcomed the crowd and introduced each of cast and crew as they stepped onto the red carpet.

Director of Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling Quintin Krog was very thankful toward the cast and crew as well as toward the large turnout of guests at the première. “I just wanted to thank the entire cast, crew, and everyone involved in the making of this film. The film was a product of a team effort. Literally every frame that was played, and every note that was sprung was really the combined effort of a group of amazing people that gave it their all. I really believe that we produced wonderful and beautiful film.”

Producer of Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling Danie Bester thanked the sponsors of the film. “It’s always a huge privilege to have people appreciate the work one’s put into making a film. I just wanted to thank all the sponsors that made making this film a little easier. I think the audience will be surprised at how well this film turned out, and I am extremely proud to be part of it,” he said.

Scriptwriter of both the original and revised version of Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling and executive producer Leon van Nierop shared his views on the new adaptation. “It was truly fantastic to be part of this new adaptation of Ballade. This is another defining chapter in the proud history of Afrikaans film in South Africa. The Afrikaans film genre has for the past three year surpassed expectation in terms of box office success, and Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling is no exception to this success. If it wasn’t for the dedicated efforts of the people industry, this success would never have been.”

Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling is set to open in theatres nationwide on 20 March.
