Krugersdorp has the cleverest of them all

702 Brain quiz held at Clearwater Mall.

Lauren Calvert walked away with R5000 after she won the first quarterfinals of the Dis-Chem Brain of 702 this weekend at Clearwater Mall.
The Krugersdorp resident claimed victory with a score of 21/25 in front of her family and favourite 702 presenters.

The event’s master of ceremony was traffic presenter Aki Anastasiou, who reeled in the contestants for the wildcard round which determined the sixth contestant of the first quarterfinals. Redi Tlhabi and John Robbie were the overall judges.

Lauren, along with five other contestants, was given 90 seconds to answer 25 questions from quizmaster Bruce Whitfield of the radio station’s Money Show.

The annual competition gives those confident in their general knowledge, achance to win some cash both on-air and in front of a live audience at the weekly mall activations.

The game starts on John Robbie’s show each morning, where the first two contenders are pitted against each other to answer the most correct number of general knowledge questions in 60 seconds.The winner takes home R1 000 and goes through to the next round in the following show. By the end of the day, the last contender standing is named the Brain of the Day and can claim another R1 000 Dis-Chem vouchers if he or she can answer a bonus Dis-Chem question.

The Brain of the Day from Monday to Friday gather at a shopping centre on Saturday, where they are joined by a Wildcard contestant, chosen at the centre in a final round of quizzing that is open to anyone who comes to the activation. From these six finalists, one winner each week earns an additional R5 000 and goes forward into the semi-final which will be held on Saturday, 28 February in Sandton.
