Poem by Dave Young: Dewani

Please remember, don’t forget,

Visitors are drawn to South Africa like a magnet.

Whether they are good, or whether they’re mad

Some of the things they do are so very sad.

For instance, Dewani described as a U.K. businessman,

And certainly not a member of the klu klux klan,

Came, in 2010, with his wife Anni, on his honeymoon,

And left on his own, not a moment too soon!

The beautiful Anni had been murdered in Gugulethu,

Not a nice area of Cape Town for me or for you.

It all happened around the midnight hour,

And looked like a hi-jacking, gone horribly sour!

Convicted for her murder was taxi driver Zola Tongo,

Together with hotel receptionist Mondi Mblombo!

They said the trip was arranged by Shrien Dewani,

Who paid for 2 hi-jackers, robbery and larceny!

So the taxi was hi-jacked not far from the hotel;

Soon after, Shrien was freed unharmed, and well!

The taxi and the body of the beautiful Anni was found,

Slumped over dead, with her head on the ground!

Dewani caught the first available flight home to U.K.

And left authorities in South Africa without any say!

He claimed to have suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome

Anybody can guess where that came from!

It took some years before he could be extradited

And for the murder of Anni, he could be cited.

Now justice delayed is justice denied,

And four years after the event he’s being tried.

Witnesses cannot be expected to remember all the details,

Even those convicted for the event, their memory fails.

So the judge, the prosecution and the defense,

Will just have to use their God given common sense!!!
