Gateway Society hosts successful golf day

RUIMSIG – Golfers enjoy a day out in the sun on Ruimsig Country Club's prestigious 18-hole golf course.

Ruimsig Country Club played host to the annual Gateway Society Golf Day on 1 October.

Fundraising manager at the society Chanelle Bekker said the day was a big success as golfers came out in their numbers to support the organisation’s golf day.

The tee-off time was at about 11am and the hosts decided to have a couple of watering stands next to the course, where the tired golfers could replenish their thirst.

“We were surprised at the number of golfers that showed up early to register for the competition and we knew that a great day lay ahead of us,” said Bekker.

Two of the golfers, Bruce Milligan and Louis Nel, arrived early and decided to practise their putts on the putting green before the game to get a feel for the course.

“We arranged food for the golfers halfway through their game, so they had the opportunity to break for lunch after they had completed their first nine holes.”

A prize-giving ceremony took place at the end of the day, where the top performing golfers received prizes for the longest drive and the closest to pin.
