Region C Sporting Council kicks off with full steam

ROODEPOORT – The newly-appointed sporting council president is ready to get his hands dirty and develop local sporting bodies.

The region C Sports Council held a meeting on 26 September in Mogale City, to iron out the details of setting up a formidable sporting body for the community.

More than 33 sports enthusiasts attended the meeting at the Tshepisong Recreational Hall, where a surprising number of people showed an interest in boxing.

Under the new leadership of Aubrey Thomas, the sporting congress is looking to attract 17 wards in Roodepoort by the end of October, in order to create a united congress focused on the development of a variety of sports, sportsmen and sportswomen.

“We need everyone in the community to come together and work toward this council. We need funds from the provincial government but we cannot get anywhere if our own community leaders do not show some interest in this,” said Thomas.

Sporting codes from baseball, football and squash are all included in the package, which Aubrey says is crucial to the sustainability and long-term development of any community.

The council is on the road to visit all the outstanding wards before going forth with the announcement of an executive committee.

The next meeting is expected to be held on 1 October in Weltevreden Park, and all members of the community are encouraged to attend.
