Fun run a big success

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Community collect R3 700 for the Community Policing Forum of Sector 2 in Honeydew.

The Community Policing Forum of Sector 2 recently held their fun run which was attended by response officers from security and participants from the community. Sector 2 CPF chairperson Neville Burnett said, “The day was a big success as the weather played along and the residents came out in great numbers to participate or just to support their family members who were running.”

He mentioned that about a 100 people ran in the race and they were supported by some 40 of their friends and family and about 30 members from Beagle Watch, Community Support Services, Londoloza, Best Secure and Dunmar attended and added an aspect of safety to the outing.

“The purpose of the day, however, was to raise funds for the Sector 2 Honeydew Cluster. After all that they have done for us, we needed to do something for them and we managed to raise R3 700 for them in total.”

Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin explained that the vibe at the fun run was amazing as the spectators cheered the competitors on during the race. “It was something out of this world as the spectators and runners were dressed in their brightest spring outfits to celebrate the change of season.”

Burnett concluded, “I want to thank each and every community member for their participation in the event and every member from the various security companies who took time off to come and support us.”
