Dancers get set to take on Germany at international dancing championships

ROODEPOORT— A group of local dancers are getting ready to jet off to Germany where they will pop and lock in the IDO Hip Hop World Championships.

The Mario Gomes Dance Academy is sending 18 dancers to Germany on 22 September to take part in the IDO Hip Hop World Championships.

The dancers, who are all from the West Rand, are currently ranked first in the country and will fly the SA flag high with their moves and impressive sequence.

The group is scheduled to perform on 17 September at the Mario Gomes Academy’s dance showcase, to give local residents a sneak-peek of their award-winning moves.

A fairly new school, all proceeds from the showcase will go toward providing flights and accommodation in Germany for the underprivileged dancers.

Mario Gomes, owner of the dance academy says, “We really need the support of community members to send these youngsters overseas, because dancing is a special talent for them and it’s not just something that they do in their spare time, but it also keeps them off the street.”

Khaya Dhladhla and Terrence Nkwatshirema are two youngsters who are certainly more than excited to jet off and show off their impressive moves. “We are looking forward to the championships in Germany in the upcoming weeks. We feel good about our choreography and the showcase at the Roodepoort Theatre will be a nice way to give residents a chance to watch us do our thing,”said Gomes.
