Silverstar’s new outdoor square pays tribute to its natural surroundings

ROODEPOORT - Director of operations at Silverstar shares on the transformation developments at the casino.

The massive R560 million redevelopment taking place at Silverstar has certainly piqued the interest of those of us living on the West Rand and further afield. With reports of an enormous outdoor area complete with exciting eateries, a giant-sized outdoor TV screen, 2 200-seater events area and brand new entertainment options for the whole family, Silverstar’s spectacular transformation has us all counting down the days until the official opening later this year.

Firstly, one of the many draw cards of Silverstar is its close proximity to the spectacular Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens with over 600 naturally occurring plant species, and an abundance of wildlife (including over 200 bird species and a breeding pair of majestic Verreaux’s eagles). Silverstar’s new outdoor village square has been carefully positioned to take full advantage of these natural surroundings to help guests feel as if they have escaped the “busy-ness” of city life.

It’s apparently this outdoor square that forms the heart of Silverstar’s redevelopment – a multi-functional daytime and evening venue surrounded by exceptional restaurants. Whether guests are relaxing with family and friends – watching the game on the enormous 61sqm outdoor plasma screen – or grabbing a bite to eat before enjoying some of the jaw-dropping entertainment options available, this outdoor square has been designed to be savoured … slowly.

Director of operations and complex general manager at Silverstar Shane Collinson is understandably passionate about this particular part of Silverstar’s transformation. As he says, we live in one of the most spectacularly beautiful countries in the world that it just makes sense to spend as much time as possible outdoors. Providing an exceptional outdoor village square, was top of his list of must-haves – and the results are nothing short of astounding.

Picture this if you can. Each of the restaurants surrounding the square will have outdoor terraced seating, creating a sense of energy and activity around and between the restaurants. Those preferring a more secluded eating area can opt for the more private restaurant courtyards, while others may want to try the beautiful dining gazebos overlooking the fountain.

Enormous attention has also been paid to the landscaping designs, both out of respect for the natural surroundings and in order to help guests feel even more at home.

Those passionate about the environment, will be happy to hear that the same environmental principles that were used when Silverstar was first built are also being applied to the current development. At no point will it pose a risk to the flight patterns or the natural habitat of the black eagles of Roodekrans.

Silverstar still has something for everyone while the development is underway. Juanita du Plessis is performing on 18 and 19 September and tickets cost R150 per person. Dowwe Dolla is performing on 24 September and tickets cost R125 per person. To book your tickets visit: www.silverstarcasino.co.za or contact 011 662 7300.
