In a shocking turn of events, a 35-year-old man was murdered shortly after his wedding.

The accused? His 14-year-old ‘wife’ who was forced to marry him a week prior.

The girl is on trial for murder in northern Nigeria.

This story caught my eye today and I didn’t read beyond the intro to come to a conclusion.

What did everyone expect; that every under-aged girl forced to marry a much older man is going to be okay with it?

Not only was her youth stolen from her, she also was forced to become (and be considered) an adult.

Do a simple search and see how many of these girls commit suicide after their forced marriage. Those deaths haven’t changed a thing. However, now that the husband suffered the same fate, why is it that all attention turns to the child?

If anything, I hope the idiodicy of this law and custom is strongly highlighted by this event.

If this girl is punished for what she had confessed to doing, I have lost all faith in humanity.
