Join the crowd at Chicago’s Piano Bar every Saturday for a great party. It is said to be the place where flappers and gangsters unite for evenings of swing and remixes. Expect great music, a good atmosphere and a memorable night. Casual Culture will provide the beats. Entrance is free to the event that starts at 7 pm. Favour The Brave in collaboration with Horang Music presents Swiss-based band Dreamshade to South Africans. The melodic heavy metal extraordinaires will be performing live at Rumours Lounge in Weltevreden Park to promote their highly acclaimed latest release, The Gift of Life. Their infectious style of heavy metal reminds of In Flames, Soilwork, Killswitch Engage and All That Remains. Dreamshade will be supported by newcomers The Drift throughout their tour. The gig starts at 9pm and costs R120 per person. Rumours Lounge is located at Palm Court on Cornelius Street in Weltevreden Park. Unwind on another lazy Sunday at Chicago’s Piano Bar where a live band will be playing at 3pm, followed by DJ Mike at 4pm. The Lucky Bean Café on 7th Street in Melville will get you amped for the week ahead with PlonkPlonk. They will blend nu-jazz, glitch, chillwave, electronica and minimal with live sampling and a host of midi controllers in a live set. There is no cover charge but space will be limited so to secure your seat, book a table. The music starts at 1pm. Monday 19 May

DJs will be spinning records to the point where the sound will have medium-wave signals and have the property of following the curvature of the earth (the ground wave) at all times. It will also refract off the ionosphere at night (sky wave) — or so they say about the DJs at Kitchener’s in Braamfontein. From 4 pm, crowds can enjoy a frequency band there, free of charge.
