The 2012/ 2013 crime statistics should be worrying for the Roodepoort SAPS.
They had the highest number of murders and sexual offences on the West Rand. This includes Honeydew, Krugersdorp, Florida and Randfontein SAPS.
During the April 2012 to March 2013 period, Roodepoort SAPS had to deal with 73 murder cases and 265 total sexual crimes both categorised under contact crimes.
Even though the number of murder cases decreased by five from the previous year, it is still the highest number of cases listed on the West Rand. Honeydew had the second highest (42), Randfontein third (36), Florida fourth (20) and Krugersdorp fifth (19).
The number of sexual crimes shows an increase from last year’s 224.
If Honeydew is taken out of the equation, Roodepoort has the highest number of cases in four of the seven contact crimes, being murder and total sexual crimes followed by common assault (736) and robbery with aggravating circumstances (595).
